Taking the First Steps
As you may already know, diversity in the business world mainly refers to diversity of employees or diversity of working conditions, and diversity management, which has recently become a global topic, refers to “how companies embrace and leverage the diversity of their employees to increase organizational productivity and capabilities.”
Due to changes in the multidimensional business environment, it is essential for us to secure and strengthen measures to actively utilize more diverse human resources, especially in these days when the decline in the labor force due to the declining birthrate and aging population is triggering an unimaginable crisis. It should be noted that the results of diversity management go beyond just securing labor, and can actually have a synergistic effect on the value and financial dimensions of a company, which is directly related to the competitiveness of the country beyond the level of each company, so a more active promotion system is needed.
Therefore, Korea Neuro-Diversity Association, a non-profit corporation to promote the first “neurodiversity” project in Korea, focusing on people with disabilities and neurodiversity as the most marginalized targets for diversity management, along with experts in each field, related companies, and associations that support the realization of DE&I values in Korean society and the improvement and spread of their employment culture in practice, will begin full-scale operation in 2024.
With the goal of securing human resources suitable for the changing labor market, including high-tech industries that are driving national competitiveness amidst the demographic cliff, the association will systematically foster people with disabilities and neurodiversity as “talented individuals who can generate new ideas, innovations, and productivity-enhancing results,” connect them to quality jobs, and provide customized solutions such as various support to help resolve employment management difficulties at the corporate level and foster related experts.
