Improving Job Quality While Expanding Opportunities for People with Disabilities

  Observations suggest that the labor market is caught between job threats and new opportunities due to the advancement of AI (artificial intelligence) and robotics technology.

  The Samil PwC Management Research Institute’s report, ‘AI and the Future of Jobs,’ states the current labor market is in a ‘transitional phase’ and predicts ‘soft skills’ will become essential competencies going forward.

  Soft skills encompass empathy, communication, creativity, and teamwork—human-specific competencies that AI struggles to replicate.

  The report explains that as AI takes over existing tasks, humans will increasingly focus on complex and creative challenges.

  It also emphasized the need for deep understanding and judgment regarding AI application areas.

It also holds promise as an opportunity for people with disabilities who have been marginalized in the labor market. An AI company encountered at the exhibition stated they are developing a guide robot for the visually impaired, adding, “We plan to hire people with physical disabilities as control room operators, enabling people with disabilities to assist others with disabilities.”
