日 IT companies to expand employment of people with developmental disabilities

[Alpha Economy=(Kobe) Woo So-yeon, correspondent] According to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei), major companies in Japan’s financial and IT industries have begun to expand employment by taking advantage of the characteristics of people with developmental disabilities in an attempt to introduce the concept of “neurodiversity,” which means “diversity of the brain,” into corporate management.

  The main goal is to support the activities of people with developmental disabilities in the IT field and to research effective human resource management methods for them.

  In addition, participating companies plan to jointly run internship programs.

  According to the Japan Research Institute, people with autism may have difficulty communicating, but they tend to have good logical thinking and concentration.

  People with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may have difficulty staying focused, but they are known to adapt quickly to change.

  This trait can be especially useful in the IT field. Overseas companies, such as Bank of America in the United States, are already adopting this approach.

  In particular, the study group will explore ways to utilize the abilities of people with developmental disabilities in the field of network infrastructure construction and data analysis.

  The study group also plans to learn from companies such as Persol Group that are leading the practice of neurodiversity in Korea.
